Real product quality and weak brand. Spain exports raw material and buys back finished goods — and the agri-food sector is where the brand has the most ground left to make up. I work with producers of IGPs (Protected Geographical Indications), DOPs (Protected Designations of Origin), meat, dairy and preserves who want to change that equation.

The reality of the sector

Excellent product, underused brand.

Spain produces some of the world's best agri-food products — IGP suckling lamb from Castile and León, Burgos cheese, extra virgin olive oil, Iberian ham, gourmet preserves from Galicia and Cantabria, DOP vegetables. The quality is there. What is systematically missing is serious brand work: generic marketing, packaging that fails to differentiate, absence of a distinctive narrative, weak media presence.

I work with agri-food producers who want to make the leap: from ‘good product’ to ‘brand with authority’. That includes strategic positioning (which mental territory do we own), packaging shaped by neuroscientific criteria, branded content that builds knowledge (not just promotion), and export plans aimed at international delicatessen channels that value premium Spanish produce.

Typical services in agri-food

Positioning, packaging, narrative and exports.

Common combination: brand work with its own territory, packaging that communicates quality without falling into rural cliché, branded content that builds knowledge, and a selective export plan into premium markets.

Frequently asked questions

What agri-food producers ask me most.

Do you work with small producers?+

Yes. I adapt the scope to the size of the operation. A small producer with a single product fits manageable budgets. What matters is not the size — it's the willingness to professionalise marketing and realism about timeframes. Serious marketing delivers measurable returns even for small SMEs.

How do you sell premium product without falling into generic marketing?+

Positioning work with its own territory. The difference between ‘premium olive oil’ (which is what everyone says) and ‘an oil that tells a specific story’ lies in the strategic work up front. Without that, every premium oil ends up looking the same.

Do you handle exports too?+

I design selective export plans and support their execution. Identification of target premium markets (delicatessen UK, US, Germany, Japan), brand adaptation, management of opinion leaders. The logistics piece I leave to specialist consultancies.

Do you work with cooperatives?+

Yes. Agri-food cooperatives have particular challenges: collegial governance, collective identity, balance between producer and market brand. I've worked with several cooperatives from Castile and León on projects to professionalise their marketing.

And sustainability — lever or fad?+

A real lever, especially for international markets and the younger consumer. But it requires serious work: real certifications, honest narrative, avoiding greenwashing. I work with producers who have substance behind them — and turn it into a defensible brand asset.
